How do the republicans have any clout at this point?

they basically run as the "responsible" party with americas economic policies. this despite the fact that since the start of the 19th century we have had three stock market crashes and ALL of them occurred during republican administrations. 1929-hoover, 1987-reagan, 2008-bush.
