Great Gatsby Symbol Question ?

My cl just finished reading The Great Gatsby, and I have to elaborate on this statement, "Nick cuts gr." It is supposed to be a symbol, but I am unsure of what to write. Nick does not cut the gr; Gatsby sends someone to cut it for him because he wants things to be perfect for Daisy. Can you please help me?
