How do I enter the Haunted Cave in Wizard 101?

I currently have a quest to battle the field guards in the Haunted Cave, but how do I get in? I know it has something to do with standing on the outside circles and waiting for the countdown. However I was recently there (as were many others) and went through several countdowns and nothing happened. Can you help? Thank You!
